Color Street MLM – Make Money with NAILS?

When I first heard about Color Street MLM, it was through a friend who is actually an ex-colleague at my previous workplace. It was unmistakable, the kind of joy and cheer pretty nails brought her.

If you are also one who gets ecstatically happy with exciting, ever-changing nail polish designs, then Color Street may be for you.

Not just as a convenient way to make a fashion statement through nail polish strips, but also as a home-based business opportunity.

To be transparent upfront, I am not a Color Street distributor. I am not affiliated to this MLM company in any way.

What I aim to do is provide my honest, personal evaluation of the marketability of its products, along with its compensation plan, so that it can help you make a better informed decision about joining Color Street or not.

Color Street sells nail polish strips that are beautiful and of great quality, with ever-changing designs. Though pricey, I believe there is a market for this.

The thing I like most about its compensation plan is the focus on retail.

You can actually earn simply by driving a huge sales volume to your replicate website, thereby increasing your commission rates. This is achievable only if you know how to leverage on free online traffic:

Fa Park was stuck in a bus in a traffic jam one day, when he noticed a lady in a nearby cab trying to polish her nails.

He thought, “There must be a better way!”, and started experimenting with nail polish.

It led to the development of a nail polish strip where the top was dry, the bottom layer was still moist and could be adhered to the nail.

With a patent and direct sales strategy focusing on social parties put in place, Color Street was all set to take to great heights.

There is only one thing that Color Street sells – nail polish strips.

This brings it a very distinct niche market – women who love and can afford to dress up their nails in vibrant, colorful designs.

I absolutely love the myriad of designs.

They have solid colors, glitters, French manicure, clear nail art, and collections that cater to the season at that time.

They even have pedicure – nail polish strips for the toenails!

Unlike nail stickers that are made of paper or plastic sheets with adhesive, or gel type, Color Street’s nail polish strips are made of real nail polish.

They can be stretched slightly to fit the nail nicely, and adhere instantly without any need for drying time.

They keep their good looks up to 10 days, and can be easily removed using any nail polish remover.

The best thing is that these are consumables.

So people who have tried this brand and like its quality as well as huge range of designs will keep coming back for more.

Hence as you promote the brand, you will be building out an ever-expanding customer base, giving you a higher chance of succeeding at a sustainable business.

Color Street Product Quality and Feedback

There are mixed reviews from customers who have tried Color Street.

The majority of users are very happy with the quality they are getting, and how long the nail polish strips can last.

Most complaints gripe about the high price.

This is because they can get very similar products from Walmart and Ulta at a lower price.

One thing to note here is that Fa Park also owns two other retail brands: Incoco and Coconut Nail Art, which sell basically the same nail polish strips, though they are not MLM companies.

The range of designs for those retail brands are pretty limited, though. So there may still be people who are happy to fork out more money to get designs from Color Street that really speak to their hearts.

How to become a Color Street Stylist

To become a Stylist (that’s what Color Street calls its distributors) and start earning from its business opportunity, you simply buy their starter package:

Basic Starter Kit $129 (worth $250 in value)

This contains products, order forms, catalogs, training tools, etc. that can get you started with the business.

How to make money with Color Street

As with any other MLM opportunity, there are two main ways to make money with Color Street:

• through retail commission by driving sales to the products, or
• through residual and recruitment commissions by recruiting people into your team and maintaining their active distributors status.

Retail commission

I will just focus on the opportunities for the lowest rank, since the vast majority of MLM participants, in general, will not even get past that.

At the basic level, commissions are 25% of the retail sales.

If you can generate $600 in monthly retail sales, your commission rate increases to 28%.

At $1200 monthly retail sales, commission rates go up further to 30%.

At 1800 monthly retail sales, your commission rates will be 32%.

And if you are able to bring in $2400 monthly retail sales for the company, your commission rates will stand at the highest of 35%, for the Stylist rank.

I like this fair reward system, and it brings a strong focus to the retail side of this MLM business.

There is a condition to be met, though.

To be qualified for earning any commissions, you have to meet a monthly sales requirement of $300 PV (personal volume).

Considering each set of nail polish strips costs between $10 to $14, it may not be that easy to hit this requirement.

Many stylists end up making their own purchases to top up for whatever gap there is, in order to qualify themselves for commissions.

This is definitely not a good idea, as you could be making losses from this ‘opportunity’, instead of earning.

If you are intending to sell the products to just the family and friends around you, to be frank, the chances for success are very slim.

In this time and age when everyone is on the internet, and does their shopping online, if you do not master the essential internet marketing skills that will create an online presence for your business, then you are putting yourself at a disadvantaged position.

Recruitment commission

To put things simply, as you recruit more people into your team, the higher up the ranks you will rise, and the more you earn.

Although this is where the true earning potential for any MLM opportunity lies, it is also the most difficult to achieve.

The commissions and bonuses are structured in a way that the bulk of it goes up to those high up in the ranks, those at the top of your uplines.

It means that at the start of your journey, as you struggle to move up the ranks, all the time and hard work that you spend talking to leads, facing rejections, and finally getting a few to sign up, are not duly compensated.

Only after you get to the higher ranks (which may take a few years) will you benefit off other people’s hard work.

This, to me, is unfair and exploitative.

And the fact remains that this is the nature of any MLM reward structure.

As long as you are able to see things clearly, then it is up to you to take it or leave it.

At least do not get disillusioned by the ‘be your own boss’ opportunity.

It does work for some people who are really proficient at network marketing. But bear in mind the truth is that 99% of MLM participants do not profit from it. This is from a report found on the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) website.

And precisely because of this, people whom you spent hours trying to recruit may drop off faster than you could say Jack Robinson.

If it doesn’t work for them, there’s no reason for them to stay.

Then the draining and repetitive recruitment cycle continues for you.

That is, unless you are able to make a good income out of this, by being able to show your downline your results from retail commissions, and teach them how to do it.

Only then will you be able to convince others that this is a worthwhile investment of your time and effort. Then you will be able to start building a sustainable residual income from recruiting others into Color Street.

How Color Street may or may not work for you

Having examined the compensation plan of Color Street, I hope you have a better idea of how to make it work for you, if you are still interested in joining this unique company selling nail polish strips.

In the beginning, focus on making retail sales, rather than on recruiting (which takes too much effort, pays too little, and cannot be sustained if your downlines do not see you actually profiting from this).

Give yourself some time to work your way up to the minimum sales requirement of $300 per month, in order to qualify for commissions.

Whether or not to top up with your personal purchases if you cannot hit this minimum requirement is really your own judgement call, taking into consideration your own financial resources.

1. A fun and exciting niche

If you have a passion for nail art, this will be a very fun business for you, with an audience that will keep returning to buy from you if they like the products.

2. Strong focus on retail

With products that stand out, the company seems confident in generating sales from retail customers, which is reflected in their compensation plan that pays higher commission rates when you drive more sales.

That can only be a good thing, and is a fair way to compensate their distributors.

Cons of Color Street

1. High price

With Fa Park’s other brands selling at about half the price of Color Street, it may be difficult to sell this to customers who may be constrained by their budget, or who may not need the variety of design choices offered by Color Street.

2. Minimum monthly sales requirement

For me, this is off-putting.

It means I would have to forego my earnings on whatever sales I had brought to Color Street, or I would have to top up to the minimum requirement that would allow me to actually earn those commissions.

Either way, it puts unnecessary stress on the new and inexperienced distributor.

3. Recruitment

At its core, Color Street is an MLM that only allows you to earn to your fullest potential after you have built a giant team under you.

It may not be something you want to do, knowing that most people are not going to profit from their participation in the business.

Is Color Street Scam or legit? 

Color Street is definitely a legitimate MLM company, with great products that people love.

Other MLMs in similar niches include MakeUp Eraser, Mary Kay, and Avon, to name just a few.

Some others with equally great opportunities as Color Street include Jewel Sanitary Napkins, Atomy, Lilla Rose, and JewelScent.

An Alternative

If you are open to the idea of something that is not an MLM, I would like to humbly invite you to consider affiliate marketing, because I have found success with it.

With affiliate marketing, I do not have to pay any fee to start promoting any number of companies I want, all at the same time.

There is no recruitment in this business model, no hosting of parties or any form of face to face selling.

ALL the work can be done in the comforts of home, doing whatever hours you like.
