Forever Living Products: Review Summary

Product: Forever Living Products

Creator: Rex Maughan

Product type: MLM company in the health and wellness niche, with a focus on aloe vera products

Price: free to start, but with a monthly minimum of $140 worth of purchase in order to start earning commission

Scam / Legit? : Legit

Recommended or not? : Not recommended

Forever Living Products is an MLM (multi-level marketing) company. No matter how top grade the products are, they are always overpriced, because that is how the few people at the top tier levels generate their massive income, at the expense of most other members who are made to incur a substantial monthly cost in order to start earning their commission.

So in this sense, demand for the products is not real, because they are way too expensive. Instead, demand is artificially created by the incentive structure of the company. This is why I do not recommend any MLM company.

If you are looking to earn a side income, and even build it into a full time income, there is a much better way to do it:

Read on for the detailed review of Forever Living Products, and why I do not recommend it.

Forever Living Products Review: what exactly is it?

In this section of Forever Living Products review, we look at their physical products range, as well as the business opportunity they offer as an MLM company, and explore why most people in MLM schemes do not make any money.

Forever Living Products Range

The company was founded in 1978, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Together with its group of global companies, they are the world’s largest grower, manufacturer, and distributor of aloe vera products.

The founder of Forever Living Products, Rex Maughan, saw the amazing health benefits of the aloe vera plant, so decided to make his business around nutritional and personal care products using aloe vera.

The fact that Forever Living grows their own aloe vera is a great advantage, as it means greater control over the cost and quality of their main raw ingredient.

The achievements of the company, to reach where it is now, is certainly no small feat. I do respect them, and believe in the quality of their products, otherwise they would not have sustained their growing business for 40 years and still counting.

Their product range includes:

  • bee products – honey and its related nutritional supplements
  • drinks – juices, gels, energy drinks and teas derived from aloe vera
  • essential oils – the common oils like lemon, lavender, peppermint, etc. and diffuser
  • accessories – bags, diffuser, shaker, water bottles, brushes, mirror and other makeup stuff, etc.
  • nutrition – a whole range of supplements
  • personal care – lip balm, toothpaste, shampoo, face and body soap, bath gel, lotions, bath salts, sunscreen, perfumes, etc.
  • skincare – eye cream, firming serum, cleansers, masks, toners, moisturisers, makeup remover, etc.
  • weight management – protein bars, powders, and other supplements.

Generally, reviews on their product range are mostly positive. The most common complaints are with regard to the high pricing, and taste of the drinks.

Forever Living Business Opportunity

Now that we have seen this is a great company in terms of its products, let’s explore the business opportunity presented to common people like you and me.

Firstly, there is no fee to join as a member. Which is a rare thing, in the world of MLMs! Once you become a member, you get to purchase their products at a discount off their retail price. And that’s about it.

To make money off the business, there are two ways to do it:

  1. Promote their products to other people. When people buy, you get to earn retail commission.
  2. Recruit people to become members, to form your own downline teams, and you get a chance to start earning recruitment commission.

But to even qualify for any of the above commissions, you need to call yourself ‘wholesale qualified’ by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • purchase 2 case credits worth of products, where 1 case credit is worth $140
  • obtain at least 4 case credits per month, 1 of which must be purchased by you. This means you incur a monthly cost of at least $140, or more if you do not meet the other 3 credits and still want to stay in the business.

To me, this is a very high cost, to promote any company’s products. If at any time you do not meet the 4 case credits per month, then you’re out of business. This puts a big mental and financial strain on anyone just trying to use this business opportunity to make ends meet.

Why Forever Living Products is not for you and me

The first method is straightforward and fair. Sell Forever Living products to people, and you earn a percentage of your sales. The more you sell, the more you earn.

Sadly, not many people will be willing to buy their products, as they are way too expensive. Despite the good quality, it is just not competitive like in the open market where you can get equally top quality products, but at a lower price.

And that is the way MLM companies work. They put a high price tag to their supposedly out of the world products, and set up an incentive structure that makes their members pay and support the entire top tier ranks, along with the creators of course.

This sets up an artificial demand of their products, fueled by the incentive structure created by the founders of the company. So you see some MLM companies crashing, as the system collapses on itself, when members cannot take the financial losses, and start to pull out of the company. I’m not saying Forever Living will collapse, just trying to illustrate the main negative of the MLM system.

So when MLM companies market their business opportunity, you see all the fast cars, huge mansions, and endless holidays that they take around the world. That lifestyle is enjoyed only by the few who make it to the top, who had their lucky stars shining on them, who joined at the right time, or who had private access to climb the ranks.

If you’re dreaming of that, then MLM is not the way to go, because those positions in the luxury yacht and the partying at an exclusive beach resort have been filled long ago, when the organisation was first formed. What you see is the life of the privileged few. What you do not see are many frustrated people who are barely earning anything, or even losing money, because this is the way MLM schemes are made to work.

This is also the exact reason why MLM companies always drive their members to go for recruitment commission. Because they need the mass in the junior ranks to financially support the existence of the entire company.

As you pay your way in the hope of generating some income, you also try to recruit family and friends into the business. You may see it as bringing them into the business opportunity. But ultimately, the people who gain from this are still… you guessed it! Those in the top tier ranks!

At the same time, you may find some family and friends shunning you, once they know you are in the MLM business.

The proper way to make money, without having to exploit any family or friends, is here all along:

Pros of Forever Living Products

1. Real owners, legit organisation

The owner of Forever Living Products is definitely real, and the company has been around for 40 years! That speaks volume of its quality products. On top of that, they are a member of DSA (Direct Selling Association), which is further proof that it is a legitimate direct selling company.

2. Fantastic products

Growing their own aloe vera certainly puts them at a great advantage, as they are not at the mercy of any factors not within their control if they were to get their plants from imports or any third party vendors. So quality can be carefully guarded.

I also like it that Forever Living actually has a scientific advisory board, made up of experts in the nutrition, medical and toxicology industries. And they present these experts on their website for all to see. To me, this testifies to their accountability towards customers.

And Forever Living is so confident of its products that they come with a 60 day money back guarantee.

3. Evergreen niche

The niche that Forever Living is in, of health and wellness, is an evergreen niche, as it will never go out of trend.

Cons of Forever Living Products

1. Heavy financial burden at the onset

In order to qualify for any commission, you have to buy yourself in. An initial $280 worth of purchase, followed by a monthly $140 worth of products, at least.

This is one of the main issues I have with the MLM scheme. Why should you be paying the company to help them promote their products for free? The fair way is to simply reward you based on the amount of sales you help them clinch. That should be the way a top quality and competitive product line should take. Honest and transparent, instead of exploiting its supporters.

See how I am earning my side income in affiliate marketing, which works on the fair system I just described.

2. What do you do with all the products bought over each month?

So with the monthly purchases that are not the result of a real demand, what do you do with them? If your health is already optimum, what do you do with the supplements? If your home is already well-stocked with Forever Living shampoos and soaps, what more do you do with the extras?

This is an inherent issue with MLM schemes. No doubt their products are of great quality, but when the demand is not real, you are actually losing money, spending more than what is necessary.

3. Pricing is too high

If a great product can genuinely serve the masses at an affordable price, the company can generate all the profits it deserves, without having to tie its members to any minimum monthly purchase.

4. Health benefits and claims not verified by any authority

Like all other MLM companies, its distributors tend to exaggerate the health benefits of the products out of proportion, making it out to be some miracle elixir that can cure any ailment. When people buy with high hopes of the products being able to fix their problems based on the unfounded claims, they frequently get disappointed.

5. Like in any MLM, majority of members end up losing money

Forever Living does not disclose its income statement. But statistics with MLM companies has shown that the vast majority do not make money, in fact as much as 90% of people in MLM schemes do not make sufficient to sustain themselves in the business. All MLM companies will portray the high end lifestyle, in order to attract people into the business. Those who failed are obviously not featured, and they happen to be the majority.

Is Forever Living Products Scam or legit?

Forever Living Products is definitely a legitimate company, with a great product line that focuses on quality. The issue is the way the company runs – on an MLM scheme. So instead of marketing affordable products to the masses, the owners choose to put the pricing in the high end, and make its distributors shoulder the financial weight of the company.

Recommendation

You can see clearly by now, I totally do not recommend anyone to seek the business opportunity within Forever Living Products. Yes I may buy their products once in a while, on a need basis. But I will never want to be tied down to tons of drinks, supplements, and shampoos that I have no use for.

If you are looking for a business opportunity, create your own dream, do not work for the dreams of others. Build your own online business in your own chosen niche that you are passionate about.

It may sound daunting to build your own business, but it is not brick and mortar we are talking about. In the internet world, it is actually quite simple to own a business. I have done it, and am earning a comfortable side income, through my own websites, doing affiliate marketing.

See how I am doing it…
